Police investigate suspected overdose deaths in Buckhead

ATLANTA — Police are investigating two suspected overdose deaths reported Friday afternoon in Buckhead.

One man was found dead at the Post Chastain apartments on Chastain Road. Another man was found dead at the AC Hotel on Wieuca Road.

Police do not think the deaths are related.

NewsChopper 2 was over the scene at the apartment complex as police investigated.

Investigators found suspected narcotics inside the apartment where the man was found dead.

The victims’ names have not been released.

“It’s awful. I just moved here a month ago. It’s crazy to even see all this happening,” neighbor Grace McGrath said.

Although the deaths come on the heels of a mass overdose outbreak in Middle Georgia, at this point police do not believe the Buckhead cases are connected to that.

“Due to the fact of the fentanyl outbreak within the state of Georgia, we took all precautions to make sure everyone in the apartment was safe, as well as the complex,” said Atlanta police Lt. Tim Brown.

For a short time, part of the apartment complex was evacuated as a precaution while police did their work. Neighbors said they hope everyone will stay safe.

“Be aware, really. Be careful. Make good choices. Make good decisions,” neighbor Tavon Betts said.

The suspected drugs that investigators collected will be sent to the GBI crime lab for testing.
