Neighbors share moments following infant who was struck by stray bullet at northwest Atlanta home

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are still investigating a shooting that left a one-month-old injured.

On Thursday, officers received reports of a person shot at The Commons Apartments on Middleton Road near the C.T. Martin Natatorium and Recreation Center just before 5:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found an infant who had been shot.

“I heard like eight gunshots,” neighbor William Stephenson told Channel 2′s Veronica Griffin. “I started seeing people running, running. Then I hear people say, ‘my baby been shot, my baby been shot.’”

Investigators said gunfire from outside entered the family’s apartment and struck the infant in the finger. The child was then taken to the hospital.

The identity of the infant has not been released.

Police have not provided any updates on what led to the shooting.

Channel 2 Action News contacted the infant’s family for more information but has not received a response.

The investigation remains ongoing.
