Martin Luther King Jr's birth home temporarily closed

ATLANTA — The historic birth home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is temporarily closed for safety reasons.

The house on Auburn Ave. in northeast Atlanta was built in 1895.

Officials said a structural issue was found in the home's floor and repairs must be made before public tours can resume.

In a statement, officials said the decision to close the home and suspend tours are in the interest of safety for visitors and the house itself.

They say they don't yet know when repairs will be finished.
