Kemp among 20 GOP governors calling for Pres. Biden not to expand Supreme Court

ATLANTA — Governor Brian Kemp and 19 other Republican governors are calling for President Joe Biden to keep the Supreme Court of the United States at its current nine justices.

Rumors have swirled that the number of justices on the nation’s highest court may change under Biden’s administration.

The president, however, does not make the final decision. The number of justices on the Supreme Court is determined by Congress.

“’Court packing,’ or increasing the number of Justices to manipulate the Court’s decisions, would be unprecedented, unproductive, and unpredictable,” the governors’ letter read.

The Court has included a total of nine justices for 150 years.

“In April, you signed an Executive Order to form the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States to explore reforming the Court, specifically including the consideration of court packing...We urge you to withdraw this proposal from consideration,” the letter continued.

They claim that packing the Court now will just lead to more packing the Court later, saying “it will never be enough.”
