Halloween party fight leads to pipe burst, water 'gushing' from ceiling at apartments

ATLANTA — Atlanta fire officials were at an apartment building popular with Georgia State University students Friday, where crews were working to repair a pipe burst.

Channel 2's Lauren Pozen was at the scene of the repairs on Ellis Street Northeast and Piedmont Avenue Northeast in downtown Atlanta.

Students, who were waiting outside in the cold, told Pozen that there was a Halloween party inside The Mix building Thursday night and that a pipe burst inside. They said water was gushing from the ceiling. Nine floors were flooded.

Police told Channel 2 Action News that a fight between three women led to the pipe burst.

"All I know is what the girls over there told me, which was basically that this all happened over a fight over a boy. This just goes to show, boys are not worth it. You're not here for that," said student Angel Onyori.

On-site security tried to stop the fight, and that's when police say 19-year-old Tamia Robinson became combative and a main water valve broke.

Police said that after they arrived, the woman they had in custody was confronted by another student and another fight broke out. The other student was also arrested.

Students were forced outside for hours. Temperatures overnight dropped into the mid-30s.
