GDOT treats roads before inches of snow fall across state

ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Transportation treated the roads before snow moved in to pnorth Georgia.

GDOT had a weather briefing Friday afternoon and told Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes that it would be sending out brine trucks and trucks with just rock salt to treat the road.

The transportation agency said it hasn’t done this kind of winter weather prep since last winter.

Channel 2′s Lauren Pozen saw crews getting ready to hit the roads Saturday morning.

“We now have that arsenal of different materials, so we look at what the storm is going to be in a specific area and tailor our reaction to it, or really our pro-action, really, in this case,” said GDOT spokeswoman Natalie Dale.

Some people told Fernandes they were surprised to see the snow and sleet when they woke up Friday morning.

“I know it’s getting cool. I didn’t know it was going to get that cold,” said Jim Starrit.

Especially not when the Atlanta metro had some spring-like days this week.

Even though GDOT said it has a plan to keep all of our roads clear, it still wants people to avoid certain areas altogether.
