Dozens gather for song and dance tribute to late Rep. John Lewis

ATLANTA — Dozens of people gathered in Altanta’s Mosley Park Sunday evening to pay tribute to the memory of Congressman John Lewis.

The tribute was presented by ToTal Dance/Dancical Productions to honor Lewis’ work fighting for minorities to have the right to vote.

Organizers say the dancers involved began dancing at 3-years-old and are now attending Agnes Scott College, Spelman College and Howard University, as well as members of the international tour group.

The group also stopped the performances several times for moments of prayer against Georgia’s new voting law being characterized as a voter suppression law.

The dancers were not the only ones who took to the stage. Drummer and singer Oginga used his talents to pay tribute to the civil rights icon.

Organizers of the event say the purpose was to preserve Lewis’ legacy in the midst of laws they believe are meant to make voting more difficult.
