Atlanta’s panda twins celebrate 4th birthday with some frozen goodies from Zoo Atlanta

ATLANTA — Zoo Atlanta’s panda twins turned 4 today. Ya Lun and Xi Lun are the only Giant Panda twins in the United States.

The zoo posted a video Thursday showing the pandas enjoying some birthday treats.

The Panda Care Team filled the pandas’ day room with ice “cakes” shaped as the number 4, sugarcane “candles” with sweet potato “flames,” and birthday boxes filled with favorite treats such as leafeater biscuits, apples, bananas, and sweet potatoes.

Ya Lun and Xi Lun are the sixth and seventh offspring of Lun Lun and Yang Yang and are the second set of twins born at Zoo Atlanta.

Ya Lun is the older of the duo by 47 minutes.

“The giant pandas at Zoo Atlanta are on loan from China. The Zoo pays an annual loan fee for the pandas, and this money is used for giant panda conservation. Zoo Atlanta has contributed over $10 million for conservation of giant pandas in China, making giant pandas the Zoo’s most significant long-term financial investment in wildlife conservation,” the zoo’s website said.
