Atlanta restaurateurs looking for ways to appease customers as seasons change

ATLANTA — We caught people across metro Atlanta today braving the major dip in temperatures but that doesn’t mean people want to spend all their times indoors.

This is about restaurateurs’ bottom lines. They want to keep their patio areas open during this cold snap so they can continue to serve customers.

Big outdoor heaters will help make that happen.

“We’re ready,” Quinn Daughtery, restaurant manager of Spice House Midtown, told Channel 2′s Audrey Washington.

The outdoor heaters are in place and ready for whatever Mother Nature brings.

“We have four heaters on our patio,” Daughtery said.

As temperatures across metro Atlanta continue to tumble this week, restaurant managers like Daughtery have these big industrial-sized heaters stationed at their outdoor dining space.

“Georgia gets cold around this time so it’s about staying prepared,” Daughtery said.

“I was not expecting it. I had on a sweater, and I went back in the house and got a coat,” neighbor Faith Eurie-Turner said.

Turner drives part time for a food delivery service and says she’s making sure her car is ready for the arctic blast.

“I let it warm up. I give it time to warm up,” Turner said.

On Sunday, we spoke with a local mechanic.

He said that when temperatures drop into the 30s and 20s, drivers should test their car battery, particularly the condition of the starter and the alternator.

“I’m actually scheduled to take it in to have them check it, do a diagnostic make sure everything is okay for the cold weather,” Turner said.

A Georgia Power representative told us they expect a major increase in electric usage this week. They said they are prepared, but asks customers to be prepared too. People are reminded to change their filters, keep the thermostats at 68 degrees and try to keep doors closed inside their houses to retain heat.
