Atlanta actor urges donations to Meals on Wheels as its waiting list doubles in size

ATLANTA — An Atlanta actor is urging people to donate to a local nonprofit as the waiting list for its services doubles in size.

Meals on Wheels helps hundreds of Atlanta seniors with food each year. It typically delivers around 500,000 meals per year to those in need.

During normal times, the organization has around 300 people on its waiting list who need meals. But with the current pandemic, that number has doubled, with more than 600 seniors on the waiting list.

It costs around $3,000 to cover a senior’s meals for a year.

Actor Ed Helms is now stepping in to help. He created a video urging people to donate to the nonprofit.

“There are a lot of senior citizens in Atlanta who are having trouble putting food on the table every day,” Helms said in the video.

Since the coronavirus started, Meals on Wheels Atlanta has delivered more than 60,000 meals.
