ATLANTA — November is Homeless Awareness Month, and the founder of retail giant Amazon funded grants to 40 nonprofits, including one in Atlanta to help end homelessness for families.
On Thursday, Partner for HOME, a homeless response agency, received a $2.5 million grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund.

Day 1 Families Fund was founded in 2018 to help agencies move the needle on rehousing and supporting families who are homeless obtain permanent housing.
“We are excited to be a recipient of a grant award from the Day 1 Families Fund,” said Cathryn Vassell, CEO of Partners for HOME. “This grant will help to change the trajectory for many Atlanta families who have been impacted by homelessness.”
The one-time grant will help support families with the rise of cost in rent, limited services and scarce incomes.

According to Partners for HOME, there are 2,017 households experiencing homelessness. However, the company states that homelessness has decreased in the City of Atlanta since 2020.
“Based on our 2022 Point-in-Time Count, 86 families consisting of 252 individuals were experiencing homelessness on the night of January 24, 2022,” said Melissa Austin, chief operating officer of Partners for HOME.
The Bezos Day One Fund, of which the Day 1 Families Fund is part of, has made a $2 billion commitment to making meaningful and lasting impacts in two areas: funding existing nonprofits that help families experiencing homelessness, and creating a network of new, nonprofit tier-one preschools in low-income communities.
