Atlanta United parts ways with head coach Frank de Boer

ATLANTA — The Atlanta United parted ways with their head coach after three straight losses in a summer tournament.

Along with head coach Frank de Boer, several assistant coaches are also leaving the team.

The team started with two wins before the COVID-19 pandemic suspended play. The United then returned to the MLS is Back” tournament in Orlando and lost three straight.

“In winning two trophies in his first season in charge, he will always be a part of the club’s history, and with great appreciation and respect we wish him all the best in the future,” president Darren Eales said on the team’s website.

De Boer is just the second head coach in the history of the United. He led the team to the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and the Campeones Cup in 2019.

De Boer replaced Gerardo‘Tata’ Marino, who led the team to their first ever MLS Cup in 2018.

An interim coach will be named until a permanent replacement is found.
