Police charged a 15-year-old with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting at Lakewood Stadium. The department is not identifying the teen because of his age.

Two children were injured in the crossfire, including 15-year-old Damean Spear and 12-year-old Isaiah Payton, who is now paralyzed from the chest down. Officers said the two victims had nothing to do with the shooting.

"These are children, and I think of Payton, and he is affected for the rest of his life," Capt. Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said. "He will require long-term disability care as a result of his injuries."

The shooting happened Aug. 17 outside the Mays High School and Carver High School football game.

The children were moving toward one of the gates to leave the stadium when there was an argument and people started shooting.

"These are our children, and we're asking that everyone, please, if you know something, say something," Gwinn-Villaroel said.

Payton's mother told police he is going through therapy and gets angry sometimes. She was happy to hear about the arrest.
