Arctic blast headed to the Southeast

ATLANTA — Monday's forecast calls for sunny and cool weather, but an arctic blast is headed to the Southeast, according to Severe Weather Team 2.

"We have cool air coming in through the day, and very cold air coming in tonight," Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

Temperatures are expected to peak in the mid-50s in Atlanta, and take a deep plunge on Monday evening. Wind gusts may also reach up to 30 mph.

The low temperature for the night is 40 degrees, but metro residents will wake up to temperatures in the 20s the next morning, and in the teens for those in the north Georgia mountains.

Temperatures will hold in the low 40s Tuesday but return to the 50s the rest of the week, Minton said.
