APD officer involved in wreck along Peachtree Road

ATLANTA — An Atlanta Police Department prisoner transport van struck a vehicle Friday evening on Peachtree Road in front of Piedmont Hospital, police said.

The single prisoner inside the van complained of shoulder and knee pain, and the driver of the vehicle hit by the van complained of neck and elbow pain, APD spokesman Officer John Chafee said.

Both were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, police said.

The officer, complained of head pain, but declined transport to a hospital.

Just before 8 p.m., the officer was driving the van southbound on Peachtree at Brighton Road when the driver of a BMW heading north on Peachtree tried to turn left in front of the van, Chafee said.

The driver of the BMW was cited for failing to yield when turning left, police said.

Two southbound lanes were closed while the accident was cleaned up.

Police continue to investigate.
