APD investigating link between two early-morning shootings

ATLANTA — Atlanta police say they have not ruled out the possibility that two overnight shootings are related.

Police said a driver pulled up to an East Point police checkpoint station with a gunshot victim in his backseat around 2 a.m. Friday. East Point officers escorted the car to South Fulton Medical Center, where the driver dropped off the victim and took off, police said.

Atlanta police stopped the driver about a mile away and he was taken in for processing. Police did not say that he was under arrest at this point.

Around the same time, a call came into 911 to report a shooting on Harlan Road off of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Atlanta police found a man in his 20s dead at a home. Police said drugs were also found in the house.

Lt. Paul Guerrucci said the slaying is being classified as a home invasion at this time.
