Big cool-down ahead after stormy Saturday

ATLANTA — Severe thunderstorms downed trees and left six people injured Saturday when lightning struck the East Lake Golf Club during the Tour Championship.

Storms are expected to taper off Saturday night.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Katie Walls said we will see a major cool-off Sunday, with a high of just 80 degrees. Temperatures will be back into the 90s by midweek but then cool back down over the six to 10-day outlook.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Heard County until 9 p.m.

Storms left a tree down on a home in Cumming.

A strong storm is moving over Dacula and eastern Gwinnett County and into parts of Barrow County.

7:04 p.m.

Severe Weather Team 2's Katie Walls said north Georgia will continue to deal with scattered storms through the evening.

5:40 p.m.:

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for part of Gwinnett County until 6 p.m.

3:52 p.m.:

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Gilmer and Pickens counties until 4:15 p.m. The warning has since expired.
