21-year-old man found shot to death near elementary school

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, DeKalb police and DeKalb school police are all working to solve a murder.
 
Someone called 911 early Sunday morning, saying they heard gun shots near Hambrick Elementary School. When officers arrived they found the body of a 21-year-old man near the school.
 
DeKalb County Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Public Safety Dr. Cedric Alexander confirmed to Channel 2's Ryan Young that there is an active murder investigation on Hambrick Road.
 
The GBI and DeKalb police are working to determine the motive for the crime.
 
Members of the victim's family arrived at the scene Sunday and told Young that the man was a college student.
 
Authorities worked for hours gathering clues at the scene.
 
A group of young men who play soccer at the school's field said the area is usually safe.
