Teens shot at DeKalb park to make full recovery

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Officials say two teens shot at a DeKalb County Park should make a full recovery.

Police say 19-year-old Chardonae Meeks and 19-year-old Maya Scott were the two teens shot during an unauthorized party held at Wade Walker Park.

Channel 2's Ryan Young was live at the scene Monday where he said both women will make a full recovery, but police say they want to talk with the promoters of the party who produced a commercial.

Police say a social media campaign brought the partygoers, but now those promoters could face charges.

Police say the party caught them off guard and that were about 1,000 people at Wade Walker Park in Stone Mountain when officers shut down an unauthorized party late Sunday night.

Officials say both teens should now be home from the hospital.
As the crowd dispersed, leaving behind empty beer cans and liquor bottles, officers said chaos erupted.

Investigators said an altercation between two groups ended in gunfire, with the two teenage girls being shot in the head.

"This is not acceptable. We're not going to tolerate this type of chaos to occur," said DeKalb County Director of Public Safety Dr. Cedric Alexander.

Police said the shooter got away, but they interviewed the victims and witnesses in hopes of identifying a suspect.

Police are still searching for the person who shot two teenagers at a DeKalb County park.
