• Security guard shot at Newton Co. birthday party


    NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. - Covington police are investigating after a house party shooting that left two people injured, including the security guard who was hired for the event.

    The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday at 355 Emerson Trail on Brown Bridge Road outside of Covington.

    Police said an adult birthday party with about 30 guests was going on when two uninvited people arrived. Police said the two party crashers mingled in the crowd and a disturbance broke out.  Shots were fired by multiple shooters, but police are not sure who the shooters were.

    A woman was shot in the leg and the security guard was shot in the arm.  Both victims were taken to local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

    Police have not released the victims’ identities.

    Multiple caliber shell casings were recovered, but no weapons were recovered from the scene.
