2 killed in Newton Co. crash

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A car crash killed two people in Newton County Thursday night.

Georgia State Patrol said a Honda Accord that was traveling at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles over double yellow lines was spotted by a trooper around 9:30 p.m. on Georgia State Route 36.

The trooper followed the vehicle and attempted to stop it by activating lights and siren, GSP said. The driver did not stop and the vehicle continued towards Covington.

GSP said the driver lost control of the vehicle near Cedar Creek Drive, traveling into the southbound travel lane.
The Honda Accord was then hit in the right side by an oncoming Honda Pilot, GSP said.

The driver of the Honda Accord, 27-year-old Donald Justin Barnes, and the passenger, 30-year-old Kimberly Nicole Anglin, were killed in the crash.

The driver of the Honda Pilot, 17-year-old William Nicolaus Tanner, and the passenger, 18-year-old Amy Michelle Daniecki, were injured and taken to Newton Medical.
