2 arrested in robberies outside high school

GWINNETT COUNTY — Authorities have arrested two people in connection to a robbery outside Shiloh High School Tuesday afternoon.

Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh was told the victims were waiting for their rides outside the school when three unknown males took their cellphones.

A representative for Gwinnett County Public Schools said two juvenile males were arrested. One was a student at the school, the other was not.

Jessica Aguirre said she never thought she'd be robbed outside her own school.

"He just ran up to us, took my phone and started running away. I was just walking and I didn't even notice he took it," she told Kavanaugh.

Aguirre said a group three boys were nearby when one of them slipped the phone right out her back pocket.

"He was pulling his knife when I saw him snatching her phone away, but then he put it back in his pocket," said Aguirre's friend, Crystal Vargas.

Vargas said the group of alleged robbers flashed the knife as they robbed a second student. Gwinnett police are investigating that claim.

The students said they are more angry than upset that someone what just take their belongings and run away.

No one was hurt during the robbery.

Charges are pending for the two suspects.

In a letter to parents, the principal of Shiloh High School said, in part:

'We are fortunate that occurrences like this one are rare at our school. It is unfortunate that we must deal with crimes like this and that the snatching of cellphones that seems to be occurring more frequently in society has occurred on our campus."
