LITHONIA, Ga. - DeKalb County police are investigating a shooting that sent a 17-year-old to the hospital Wednesday.

The incident happened in a house on Kilkenny Circle in Lithonia.

The teenage victim was shot in the chest. Police are trying to determine what led to the shooting.

A man who was in the home told Channel 2's Carl Willis it was accidental.

"I heard a shot in the house and one of the kids was playing with the gun and I guess one of them got shot," said the man, who identified himself only as Mr. Jewel.

The victim was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital. Police say they're not ready to rule anything out, including the possibility that this was not an accident.

"We're not sure at this stage, but we will get to the bottom of it," said DeKalb County Police Lt. Mark Lavigne.

Police spent hours talking to people on scene.

"We have several persons detained as persons of interest," said Lavigne. "We have not made any arrests at this stage we're stiill trying to determine motive."'

Police say the teen is listed in stable condition.
