120 rifles stolen from metro Atlanta train

ATLANTA — More than 100 rifles were stolen from a train in metro Atlanta.

After receiving a tip about the incident, Channel 2 Action News confirmed Thursday that 120 rifles were stolen from a CSX cargo container.

CSX has miles of train tracks in metro Atlanta, many of which run alongside the heart of the city. The company will not pinpoint the exact location of the theft, only saying that someone broke into a container and took 120 rifles of various calibers in the Atlanta area.

"We are providing full support to law enforcement officials in a rigorous investigation led by them," a CSX representative said in an emailed statement to Channel 2.

Knowing someone stole dozens of guns is not sitting well with people who live near the tracks.

News Chopper 2 captured some of the 21,000 miles of the CSX network the company polices on its own. There are surveillance cameras and patrols in place, but neighbors question whether that's enough.

"If they know there's that type of equipment on there, there should be tighter security," resident Jennifer Beals told Rozzi.

While CSX does police its own tracks, the company is working with other agencies to track down the thief and the stolen gun.
