Heavy rain moves through bringing flash flooding to parts of the metro

ATLANTA — The rain made for a soggy evening commute on Monday night.

Some areas reported flooding as you can see in this video sent to Channel 2 Action News by viewer Justin Adair in Carrolton. The video taken on U.S. 27 shows it underwater but that didn't stop cars from trying to make their way through.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued on Monday night for Clayton, Henry and Spalding Counties.

Severe Weather Team 2 tracked showers and storms in parts of north Georgia and the metro earlier in the afternoon.

"Drier air starts drifting toward the area tomorrow, but it will still stay wet at times with the chance of rain at 60 percent," Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

By Wednesday and Thursday, the most significant moisture pushes to the south of the area and we’ll have just isolated storms each day with highs returning the low 90s.

Acworth and Kennesaw picked up 2 to 3 inches of rain on Sunday. So far, the rain surplus for Atlanta is more than 6 inches.

Monahan said we will get a small break in the rain Wednesday and Thursday. But more is expected later this week.

Over the weekend, a Clayton County apartment complex was flooded after slow-moving showers dumped inches of rain.

The Red Cross said they were helping about 32 people with emergency lodging and food because of the flooding.
