Police: I-285 block caused by man running into traffic

Police have released more information about a traffic incident that blocked both lanes of Interstate 285 near Riverdale Road Tuesday morning.

According to Clayton County police, a man intentionally crashed the car he was driving in the eastbound lanes into the median wall. When he survived the crash, he jumped over the wall and ran into oncoming westbound traffic, police said. He was hit by several cars and died at the hospital.

His female passenger was injured, but expected to survive.

Lanes in both directions were closed around 9 a.m. Tuesday in connection to the incident.
