Athens-Clarke County police told news outlets Thursday that officers arrived at the 46-year-old's home Sunday. Police spokesman Geof Gilland says her boyfriend beat her with a baseball bat and she was severely injured.
Gilland says officers detained 51-year-old Christopher Warden and began helping the wounded woman. He says one officer helped load her into an ambulance, recognized she needed immediate care and got into the driver's seat while medics tended to her.
Police didn't provide details on her condition.
Warden remained jailed Thursday on aggravated assault and battery charges. It's unclear if he has a lawyer who could comment.
