ATLANTA (AP) — Police say an Atlanta business executive was shot after a gun discharged inside the car in which she was riding. She would later die from her injuries.

Police say McIver was driven to Emory Hospital where she died in surgery at about 1:20 a.m. on Monday.

Detectives are investigating the shooting and have not released the names of the people in the car. They did not say if charges would be filed.

McIver was president of Corey Airport Services, an Atlanta-based company, for 43 years.

McIver lived in Buckhead with her husband, C.L. "Tex" McIver, an attorney.
