The Georgia Department of Corrections said that Tommy Shane Morton was apprehended without incident Monday in Coffee County, about 220 miles (354 kilometers) from the prison where he had been serving a 10-year sentence for theft and manufacturing marijuana.
Authorities had been hunting for Morton since May 6, when he walked away from a road crew working near the prison in Carroll County.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the escaped inmate was captured by officers from a fugitive apprehension unit. Carroll County Prison Warden Robert Jones had previous said nothing in Morton's criminal history suggested he would become violent.
