City of Gainesville helps residents get to vaccine appointments

GAINESVILLE, Ga — Any residents with an appointment for COVID-19 vaccination who cannot figure out how to get there, the city of Gainesville has a vanpool service that will get you there for $1 per ride.

During February and March, vanpool service WeGo will get you there. The service will take residents to vaccination appointments within the city limits.

“We are delighted to use the new WeGo vanpool service to help residents access vaccination sites,” Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center Director Phillippa Lewis Moss said. “We want to make sure every eligible person has equal access to the vaccine, and transportation should not be a barrier to public health.”

Interested residents should download the WeGo smartphone app using the app stores. WeGo operates Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is available to everyone, including people with disabilities.

Due to space and parking limitations, all appointments at the Hall County Health Department will move to Chicopee Woods Agriculture Center beginning Monday, Feb. 8, according to Dave Palmer, public information officer for district two.

“All FIRST- and SECOND-dose appointments scheduled ON or AFTER Feb. 8 will be administered at the Chicopee Woods facility,” Palmer said.

Currently, Hall County is offering the vaccine to people 65 and over, health care workers, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, law enforcement, firefighters, 911 dispatchers and first responders.

McElveen’s Pharmacy: 770-534-7675, 1210 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville

All these locations are appointment only, NO walk-ins are accepted.
