Feds Order Doraville Bus Co. To Shut Down

DORAVILLE, Ga.,None — Buses belonging to a Doraville-based company have been ordered off the streets.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has ordered H&W Tour, Inc. to shut down operations, saying buses currently traveling must end their trips at the next scheduled stop. The company’s federal registration has been revoked.

“Illegal and unscrupulous bus companies are a serious threat to innocent travelers,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. “The full force of the federal government will be brought to bear on those who willfully place bus passengers and others who share the road in needless peril.”

According to the federal order, H & W does not test drug test drivers, carry adequate insurance or conduct vehicle inspections, among various violations. The DOT said a Wednesday inspection revealed violations “so widespread as to demonstrate a continuing and flagrant general disregard for compliance … and a management philosophy indifferent to motor carrier safety.”

The order said H & W, which advertises daily multi-state bus travel, was ordered to shut down five years ago but continued operations anyway. The DOT listed a set of steps the company must take to have the order lifted. Failure to comply may result in thousands of dollars in daily penalties and/or imprisonment.
