Early Learning: A Smart Investment

ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News anchors Justin Farmer and Jovita Moore take an in-depth look at the benefits and challenges of quality early education in Georgia, Sunday at 8 pm.

Researchers say 400,000 Georgia children under six years old are in the care of someone other than their parents for up to 10 hours a day. The state agency which oversees childcare and preschool programs is working with private and non-profit partners to improve the quality of early care and learning.

Channel 2 will examine the new rating system designed to help parents find quality early education in their neighborhoods.  This prime time special will also explore how private dollars may be critical to ensuring access for all Georgia children and give parents ideas on ways to stimulate vocabulary and learning at home.

“Channel 2 and our parent company, Cox Enterprises, are proud to support such an important initiative,” said Tim McVay, vice president and general manager of WSB-TV.  “This issue affects every Georgian and shows early learning proves to be a smart investment even if you don’t have children.”

The WSB-TV Family 2 Family Project underscores Channel 2’s commitment to comprehensive coverage of public service efforts in the community. As part of this long-running, station-wide effort, the station produces primetime programming that supports the four pillars of health, education, safety, and quality of life in Georgia. The Family 2 Family Underwriters are Southwest Airlines, American Signature Furniture, Kroger, Northside Hospital and Scana Energy.

ABC's repeat of Once Upon A Time, will air at 12 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013.
