Cobb County Public Safety Director Resigns

COBB COUNTY, Ga.,None — Cobb County's embattled public safety director Mickey Lloyd has resigned, Channel 2 Action News reporter Ross Cavitt confirmed.

Lloyd sent an e-mail to Cobb police and Public Safety employees which read, in part, "As you all know, I have been under attack from the news media and others for several weeks now. Although I know who I am and the accomplishments that I have earned, this is a tiresome struggle not only for me personally, but also for my family and for our department."

The e-mail went on to state, "I feel that my stepping down is the best decision that I can make for the Department of Public Safety, my family, and myself. I would like to say thank you for all of your support and hard work and for the opportunity that you have given me to lead. You will always be special in my heart. Be careful out there."

Lloyd admitted to Channel 2 that some of the claims about his military service and awards were not true. Lloyd said he did earn Silver and Bronze stars for his service in Vietnam, but did not earn a Purple Heart and wasn't a Navy Seal. He said there was a misunderstanding, and someone else released that false information.
