Channel 2 Presents Social Media and Your Kids

ATLANTA — The social media revolution has created a whole new world of communication and no group has been more affected by this change than young Georgians. Every tweet, Facebook post and text could come with disturbing and sometime dangerous consequences.

Channel 2's Monica Pearson warns local parents about the new risks that are starting to emerge. "It's a show no family can afford to miss," said Pearson. "We will take parents through the critical steps to help keep their kids safe."

This program features chilling warnings from local teenagers about cyber bullying, sexting and online hacking. Channel 2's Justin Farmer and WSB Radio's Scott Slade will also moderate a question and answer session with social media experts in front of a live studio audience.

"WSB-TV has researched this important issue and is eager to share our findings with parents. Our community needs to lead and teach our children about social media," said Marian Pittman, station manager for Channel 2.

Experts say the main problem is parents and kids do not talk to each other about what is going on in social media. Channel 2 is asking parents and kids to sign a pledge to have a conversation at least one hour a week. The pledge card is available to download on wsbtv.com and on the station's Facebook page. Social Media and Your Kids will also be streamed live on wsbtv.com and simulcast on 95.5FM and AM750 News/Talk WSB. Viewers are also invited to join the conversation on Channel 2's Facebook and Twitter pages before, during and after the show.
