ROSWELL, Ga.,None - You’d have a hard time figuring the Centennial Knights and Milton Eagles were a combined 2-7 the way they played Thursday in Roswell.
The Sports Zone Thursday Night Game of the Week went down to the final minute, before the Knights held on for a 21-20 victory, ending their 4-game losing streak.
Milton scored on its opening possession, as Treyvon Paulk’s 57-yard touchdown run put the Eagles on top, 7-0.
They added to their lead later in the first, when quarterback Colin McElroy scored on a 50-yard run.
Milton led 14-0 after the first quarter and at halftime.
Centennial would score the next 21 points though, as Jimmy Meyer’s 6-yard TD run cut the Eagles’ lead in half at 14-7.
With a little over 2:00 left in the third quarter, Centennial’s Zietrick Smith found the end zone from 27 yards out. The PAT tied the game at 14.
It remained that way until Cyril Teal used his speed to get to the corner and around the defense on the right side for a 25-yard touchdown. The PAT put the Knights up 21-14, however the Eagles marched back down the field.
A Centennial sack forced the Eagles to go for it on their final chance on 4th down. Needing 14 yards for a first down, McElroy instead found Ryan Jenkins, who was able to spin his way into the end zone with 36 seconds remaining and the Eagles a PAT away from tying the game.
But the Knights blocked the point after and Centennial’s 21-20 victory allowed the Knights to snap their 4-game losing streak.
