Butler man wins $100K Fantasy 5 prize

ATLANTA — Karren Owens of Butler is celebrating a win from the Georgia Lottery. Owens, 23, matched all five numbers from the Aug. 7 Fantasy 5 drawing, winning the $100,000 jackpot prize.

Apple Tree Mini Mart, 143 E. Main St. in Butler, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.

“I checked my numbers on the web, and I was shocked,” he said. “I had to double check.”

With his winnings, Owens anticipates enrolling at Fort Valley State University to study business.

“I want to better my life,” he shared.

Winning numbers from the Aug. 7 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 8-9-12-24-28.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.5 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
