• Bizarre Chase Leaves State Trooper Injured, Suspect Shot

    DEKALB COUNTY, Ga.,None - A Georgia state trooper was injured, another person shot, in an incident in DeKalb County Sunday night.

    There was a vehicle pursuit from Maynard Terrace to Candler Road involving a Georgia State Trooper and a driver in a Nissan around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle pursuit ended at Candler Road at Northview Avenue. The man fled the scene on foot and the female trooper gave chase, the Georgia State Patrol told WSB-TV's George Howell.

    Police said during the arrest, the two got into a physical altercation on Willa Drive. The trooper was beaten by the suspect, they said. The trooper shot the suspect, but he fled to his nearby vehicle and drove away.

    The suspect was taken into custody a short time later near the intersection of Candler Road and Interstate 20 after crashing into a Popeye's sign.

    The trooper was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with facial injuries. They are not believed to be life-threatening.

    "They say she's going to be alright," a state trooper at the scene told WSB-TV photographer Casey Nichols.

    The suspect was taken to Grady with non-life-threatening injuries, too.

    The incident is under investigation by the Special Investigations Division of the Georgia State Patrol as well as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
