Police said they are concerned that personal and private information could be in the hands of criminals. Residents are worried, too.

"You can't help but worry about that identity theft," said Khris Parker, a resident at one of the apartment complexes.

Police said the thefts occurred at the Villas at West Ridge, Stewarts Mill Landing, Century Park West and Arbor Terrace aparment complexes.

The thieves ditched the mail in a dumpster after going through it, police said.

Police kept the mail that appeared to have been tampered with and the unopened mail was returned to the post office.

Police told Channel 2's Ross Cavitt that they have obtained surveillance video and will use it to try to identify the thieves.
