• Atlanta Weather: Showers, Storms Expected

ATLANTA - Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said showers and thunderstorms will be more numerous Friday than they have been in recent days.

Beginning at 1 p.m., heavier showers and thunderstorms are expected to begin developing across Lumpkin County and over toward Rabun County.

Showers are also expected to begin popping up around 2 p.m. in Gwinnett, DeKalb, Spalding and Coweta counties and the surrounding areas.

"There will be a little break here or there, but there may be some heavier spots. You'll need to watch for those because they'll have a lot of lightning, strong winds and real heavy downpours through 6 p.m.," said Minton.

Minton said the evening rush hour will probably be a messy one due to the storms.

Around 8 p.m., thunderstorms are expected in the western suburbs.

"And it will break up as we go overnight," said Minton.

Showers are expected again Saturday afternoon -- especially in the south metro areas.

The high Friday will be in the mid-90s.
