It's back! Atlanta Braves baseball returns to Turner Field

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves opened the home portion of the 2012 baseball season at Turner Field over the weekend.

And what a way to start if off! The Braves swept the Milwaukee Brewers. The home team won Friday night's game 10-8. Brian McCann homered and Dan Uggla hit a game-winning two-run single in the eighth inning. The Braves picked up a 2-1 victory on Saturday behind the dominating pitching of Mike Minor. And in Chipper Jones' first start at home this season on Sunday, he blasted a three-run home run that led to a 7-4 victory.

Speaking of Chipper Jones, the Braves third baseman announced in spring training that 2012 would be his final season. Fans of the team and the player showed their appreciation for all his efforts through the years over the weekend. Many fans came wearing their Jones jerseys and he received a thunderous applause every time his named was announced.

If you missed the Braves in action over the weekend, don't worry. There's at least 78 more opportunities to catch them at Turner Field this season. Let's hope there are a few more chances in the post-season, too.

Here's some of the celebration and pageantry from opening night as duo The Civil Wars sang the national anthem.
