Historic hotel offers much more than gingerbread

When people hear the name Grove Park Inn, thoughts of gingerbread fill the minds of many. That’s because the Asheville North Carolina resort is home to the National Gingerbread House Competition.

But the historic Omni hotel offers guests an award-winning stay, with or without gingerbread.

“The Omni Grove Park Inn is a year-round destination whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a staycation or a beautiful place to work remotely, we’ve pretty much got it all,” the hotel’s Susan Rotante told wsbtv.com’s Nelson Hicks.

The resort’s 43,000 square foot subterranean spa includes 20 water features and more than 30 treatments. Hit the links, golf year-round on the Donald Ross-designed course that skirts the Blue Ridge Mountains. Learn about the hotel’s century-long history on an audio history tour. There’s a sports complex, pool and plenty of restaurants.

“You don’t have to leave the resort if you don’t want to leave the resort,” Rotante said. “We have everything here for you, but if you want to venture out into Asheville, we are considered ‘Beer City USA.’ We have the most breweries per capita, and they’re all finding safe and unique ways to serve their clientele. From the restaurants, from the art scene, perusing the galleries in the river arts district to really just walking around downtown and enjoying the ambiance.”

With all the people working remotely and students attending school virtually, there’s a new opportunity to travel. Head up to the North Carolina mountains to explore. Or if you prefer, relax and enjoy some time in front of the massive fireplaces.
