Brunson, Monarchs Down Fever To Win Seventh Straight

Sunday, July 27, 2008

(Sports Network) - Rebekkah Brunson notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and the Sacramento Monarchs opened up a big first-half lead en route to a 70-62 win over the Indiana Fever.

Kara Lawson added 12 points for the Monarchs, who ran their win streak to seven games. Nicole Powell and Laura Harper scored 11 points apiece, and Sacramento benefited from 21 Indiana turnovers.

Katie Douglas had a game-high 23 points for the Fever, losers of three straight and five of six overall. But no other Indiana player reached double figures, with Tamika Catchings' eight points as the next highest total.

Sacramento's defense controlled the game, as the Monarchs allowed just 26 first-half points to open up a 14-point gap at intermission before holding on the final two quarters.
