Taurasi, Mercury Make Short Work Of Hapless Dream

Sunday, July 20, 2008

(Sports Network) - Diana Taurasi scored 21 points, and the Phoenix Mercury continued the Atlanta Dream's woeful expansion season with a 110-84 blowout win at the US Airways Center.

Cappie Pondexter added 17 points and seven rebounds for the Mercury, winners of two straight. Lecoe Willingham, Tangela Smith, Kelly Mazzante and Allie Quigley each scored 11 points, and the Mercury made 11-of-24 from three-point range.

Ivory Latta scored 18 points to lead the Dream, who have lost four of their last five and fell to 3-21 overall. Iziane Castro Maruqes chipped in 17 points, while Kasha Terry finished with 16 points and 11 boards.

Phoenix opened up a huge lead and never looked back. The Mercury led 29-13 after 10 minutes and continued to pull away, thanks largely to a lackluster 4- for-23 performance from beyond the arc by the Dream.
