Joe Paterno must go

Joe Paterno must go. He must leave now and take his Division-1 record of 409 victories with him to a quiet place in Pennsylvania. A place where he can think, reflect and cope with the fact his lack of actions helped crush the souls of innocent children.

Spare me the, "He did not break any laws" speech. Yes, Paterno did what he was required to do in 2002 when a then-graduate assistant told him he witnessed former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually assault a boy. Paterno told his boss.
His boss did nothing. Paterno did nothing after that.

The boy was assumed to be 10 at the time. Paterno was in his early 70s.

Paterno is a god in Pennsylvania. He was public figure who everyone trusted. He spoke about being a father figure and bringing in freshman as young men and making sure they left the University as men.

How can someone so respected and so admired fail in the simplest way by ignoring an alleged assault on a child?
What if that was his grandson? Would he have notified the police then?

Joe Paterno was supposed to answer questions on Tuesday during his weekly media conference, but the session was canceled 20 minutes before it was supposed to start.

He has released one statement through Penn State since the allegations broke. "The fact that someone we thought we knew might have harmed young people to this extent is deeply troubling," he said. "If this is true we were all fooled, along with scores of professionals trained in such things, and we grieve for the victims and their families. They are in our prayers. I understand that people are upset and angry, but let's be fair and let the legal process unfold."

It would have been nice for the young boy to watch the legal process unfold nearly a decade ago.

Joe Paterno should resign now, while he still has a choice.

Tragically, the now nine alleged victims didn't have one.
