"The Dream" @ 50  This week the nation will begin to remember the life and celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Georgia is no exception. This year is a special year-long observance because 2013 marks the 50th year of many pivotal moments in the American Civil Rights led by Dr King, namely his Letter from a Birmingham Jail where he answered the criticism he was getting from fellow clergymen in April of 1963. Then in August of that same year it was the March on Washington where he delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech . In partnership with the King Center, the National Art Education Association, the United Nations and others, The Dream @ 50 project is launching a major event next Saturday as part of a 10 city tour.

Morehouse Dream Big Saturday afternoon, January 19th The Martin Luther King Junior International Chapel of Morehouse College will be the host of the I have a dream @ 50 Project Awards ceremony, People 2 People producers recently spoke with the Chapel Relations Director Terry Walker who explained some of what's in store for the public. Totes 2 Tots 2013 Georgia Cancer Specialists and The Family 2 Family Project will be starting its Martin Luther King Junior day of service project giving back to foster kids early. On the Friday January 19, 2013, from 10am-2pm , you can donate a new or nearly new kid-sized suitcase or backpack at any one of 24 Georgia Cancer Specialists locations. Suitcases and book bags will be provided for children from the age of infant to teenager. Click here for more information

Alliance Theatre Collision 2013 Metro Atlanta High School students will be lending their voices to the King celebration this year. Teenagers with the Alliance Theatre's Collision project will collaborate with author pearl Cleage for a free performance reading of Dr. King, and original script written by Pearl Cleage, that explores the power each individual has to effect social change. The collision project brings together 20 teenagers and gives them a unique theatrical experience. "Dear Dr. King" is Monday January 21, 2013 at 1pm and 3pm at the Rich Auditorium  at the Woodruff Arts Center. Click here to RSVP

Civil War 2 Civil Rights There are many historians who are saying you cannot talk about civil rights without talking about the civil war. The Georgia Humanities Council is leading the charge from Civil War to Civil Rights by identifying programs, exhibits, tours, aimed at giving us the back-story.. the real story...in Part 2 of the interview with Humanities Council President Jamil Zainaldin, he talks about how the US Constitution was designed to protect the institution of slavery and how President Abraham Lincoln successfully amended it.
