People 2 People November 4, 2012

People 2 People brings you Community Coverage You Can Count On! There's a simple way you can help the victims of last week's super storm, and the Kroger company wants to make it easy. Metro Atlanta Dentists are coming together to provide a day of free dentistry to anyone who needs it. A student-lead protest 20 years ago is revisited and with just days before the General Election, parents in one county teach their children the ultimate civic lesson. It's What's On People 2 People.

GSU Through the Fire Students at Georgia State University will spend this week reflecting on a 20 year old event that sparked a change at the university. A protest started 20 years ago because of racial slurs spray painted on a trash can. Black students at GSU launched a protest and sit -in that resulted in the creation of the department of African American Studies. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the sit-in and there are several events scheduled to commemorate the occasion. Through the Fire, 20 years later-the impact of the 1992 student sit-in at GSU begins Thursday November 8th, 2012 and ends November 10th. The events are free and open to the public, click here for more information.

Free Dental Day 2012 A group of metro Atlanta dentists are coming together to make a difference in their community. For the second year in a row, they're offering their services for free. The dentists are still in need of about 30 volunteers. They're looking for dental assistants and more. For those who plan to be served, you're encouraged to come early and to wear warm, comfortable clothing. Free Dental Day is Saturday November 10th, 2012 from 4am-4pm at Marietta Family Dental Care in Marietta GA. Click here for more information.

ALS Disease A state-wide day long conference is being planned for people with Lou Gherig's Disease or ALS. Living for Today, Learning for Tomorrow, the state-wide symposium by the ALS Association of Georgia is Saturday November 10th, 2012 at the Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center Hotel from 7:30am-5pm.

Mountain Stewards 2012 November is Native American Heritage Month and People 2 People producers want to pay tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans. We caught up with a North Georgia man who has made an amazing discovery right here in our state, and beyond. His name is Don Wells, one of the first Cox Conserves Heroes. He speaks all over the southeast about his findings concerning Native American culture. Click here to learn more about the work of Mountain Stewards.
