Atlanta Children's Shelter

 

When it opened in 1986, the mission of the Atlanta Children's Shelter was to help homeless families with young children not only get off the streets but also get jobs, stable housing and achieve long-term self sufficiency so that their children could thrive. 25 years and 8,000 homeless children later, lives are still being changed! The Atlanta Children's Shelter is celebrating 25 years of helping children with a gala. The gala takes place Saturday, September 10th at the Loews Atlanta Hotel from 6:30pm to 10:30pm. E-Scrap

 

For years, every third saturday of the month, keep Atlanta Beautiful has sponsored a monthly e-scrap collection program. families from all over metro-Atlanta come to Grady High School to drop off their computer monitors, printers, rechargeble batteries and a host of other outdated or unused electronics. Starting this month, the very popular program is changing dates and locations. This month's e-scrap drop off is saturday, September 10th at Walden Middle School located at 320 Irwin Street, Atlanta, Georgia 30312 from 10am-3pm. Herndon Home 100yrs+

 

Alonzo Herndon was Born into slavery but became Atlanta's wealthiest black citizen as well as founder and President of Atlanta Life Insurance Company one of the most sucessful black insurance companies in the nation. His family mansion has become an historic landmark and tourist destination. This year the Herndon Home celebrates more than 100 years of its existence. The Herndon Foundation will pay tribute to the legacy of the Herndon Home and the Herndon Family with a centennial celebration being held Sunday, September 11th at the Atlanta History Center. Films that Matter

 

Bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and your love for Films that Matter. Films that Matter is prsented by the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Each year the center presents contemporary movies with civil and human rights themes. Screenings will take place at parks around the beltline, Reynoldstown, Washington Park, Woodruff Park and historic Fourth Ward Park.Films that Matter begins Friday, September 9th.
