It was a storm like none other and hasn't been seen since. 20 years ago, March 12 thru 14, a massive area of low pressure moved from the Gulf of Mexico to New England leaving in its wake an impressive snow field. Atlanta officially received only 4.5" of snow (still unreal for March) but the suburbs recorded well over a foot and with 35 mph winds, the snow was drifted into piles that measured several feet.
This storm was in the early days of weather models and they correctly predicted what happened days in advance. The numbers were so far out, many meteorologists did not believe them. Severe Weather Team 2 warned of this event days before the storm hit. Glenn Burns and Karen Minton were spot on even though the public and newsroom questioned the prediction.
I was part of the team back then, but left town on Monday March 8 for a family vacation in California. I didn't return until the following week when nearly all of the snow had melted. My neighbors did build a snowman in the driveway just to prove it snowed!
Send us your Blizzard of 93 photos and memories, can't believe its been 20 years!
