2013 is continuing the trend of December 2012 of being warmer and wetter than average for Atlanta. As I look back at the numbers for all of 2012, I am amazed at what transpired.

2012 was the warmest year on record for Atlanta. We have been keeping weather records for a long time, all the way back to 1878. When you take the high and low temp for the day and average them and then do that for everyday, 2012's average temp was 65.6. That is warmer than the 65 degrees of 1990.

10 out of 12 months were above the average, with the warmest month of March which was 10.2 degrees above normal. That is surprising because if you remember, we set our all time high temp mark on June 30th of 106, but June's average temp was just .1 degree above the average.

Only two months of 2012 did Atlanta record above average rainfall for the month, January and December. For the year we had a rainfall deficit of 12.68". That ranks as the 11th driest year on record. Atlanta's heaviest rain day was 1.97" on January 21, 2012. We recorded no snowfall for the year.
