The slow movement of Tropical Storm, then Tropical Depression, Beryl brought some beneficial rain to our state. Most of the heavy rain stayed in southeast Georgia where doppler radar estimates had totals at 4 to 6 inches. This area had been under an extreme drought (Level 3) and those totals will definitely help.

However the crucial drought spots, SW Georgia and most of Middle Georgia did not record the heavy rain, so their drought designation of an exceptional drought (Level 4) will probably not change.

A cluster of thunderstorms rolled over NW and West Georgia overnight bringing some spots 1 to 2 inches of rain. This area has not been in a drought classification for most of the year and this latest rain event will keep it that way.

Stay tuned for a summer drought outlook in the days ahead. Peace.
